In watersheds undamaged by construction I have had good luck on high ground were the near-bye stream is "meandering" severely. I believe the oldsters liked to camp next to flowing water. The meandering implies an ancient watercourse. In Ohio that gets you close to the last Ice age. Good luck to you.

Last Saturday, I took my wife, Agnes to a small site. We found a few bifaces and some pottery. I wanted to see if I could relocate a nearby mound. While traveling to it, Agnes said, 'I see pottery.' To humor her, I stopped. She was right. A nice dark midden about 18" thick extended along the road for about 75 yards. About 300 yards later I located the mound & another midden We will return.

In my area it is very dry & water is key.I find alot of camps by researching water sources, many times they will be w/in 200 yds. or so .Close enough to see the water, but not to close as to keep them from coming in. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a spring, large natural tanks are good places to look as well.
