Exclamation Should I dig here???

I live in Tennessee, about a mile from a Indian mound guarded by 2 houses full of people... Lol... I have a small creek in front of my house. Explored it and Pretty sure it has a spring. Strangely, in some areas, it has what looks like a sheet of rock for a bed. And rocky cliffs at the base of the hill/bank. No finds... To many creek rocks. Whole nodules. From creek to the back of my house is flat. Immediately at the back of the house,3 small cleared ridges, then it goes up a big hill of forest. Then levels off into a meadow and rite back down. To the back left of this meadow, a small mound type hill. I investigated the forest hill, nodules.. No chips... Lots of rocks. Trees are small, except a few that are big enough to be very old. Meadow soil was medium, didnt get into it real good, nothing caught my eye, which was disappointing because, I figured that was the spot?? Didn't get to check the small hill, because what ever was growing up there made my legs itch like crazy. Up there, just wasn't what I wanted to see, ya know? But in question, is immediately in back of my house. And possibly under it. It's a old farm house, 50's I think, and the back of it has been added on. So rite there are these 3 small ridges that end 1 foot from the house. Flint/Dover chert chips/chunks/and flakes galore!!! And I'm pretty sure a fire pit, partially exposed from erosion, and all in the soil as I peck it out. Not sure what you all call middens?? But they are black, hard, chalky, and look like coal rocks?? Some big/small. And before I forget, I'm in a valley.. Hill behind house, and in front of house, on other side of small creek.. Been up the hill behind the creek, and flint beds and nodules cover the hill side, so they would have gotten it there.. On my side, its all collected rite against the house, and just all over the surface. I've been told to follow flint uphill, but this stops at top of ridges. Soil changes from base to top dramatically, from clay, to rich dark soft soil, to normal hard soil. But it seems that as soon as I start to scratch... No more flint.. Im certain its not washing down, but rather in a particular layer of those ridges...I don't want to waste time, am used to looking in fields, but am convinced I need to stay at home and investigate this season... Lol...What do I need to do? Where should I start on these ridges? How far in horizontally do I need to go? Should I see flint from the start, or dig till I find it? I know how to scrape, and what to use, from going with sister in law, but this would be my first, (Own Spot) so, I won't have someone saying, " here's the spot, let's dig"

the closer you get to the spring, the more likely you will find whole points,, you probably need to dig an area that has remained the closest undisturbed area to the spring. Creeks flood and was entire areas away, so you need to know exactly which area has virtually remained untouched by the force of water, but closest to the spring. Look for areas close to the spring that have washed out, and follow the debris trail down the stream if the spring is flowing into a creek. Any where you chose to dig, don`t dig past clay
