Small Hunt/cool lizard
Field has had about 2 in of rain since planted with soybean week and a half ago and they are almost an inch tall figured I would walk around it a little. As soon as I got up to it there was this lizard on a rock on the edge of the field getting some Sun. I dont remember seeing this type of lizard (doesnt look salamander like) before so if anyone has an idea what it might be let me know. Found a couple nice midsections that seem harder to photograph than the lizard and I can do whatever I want with the rocks. Well this was the first pic of the Lizard and the midsections were super material and sun was really out.

It's not a "skink", but a six lined racerunner, a species of whiptail lizard, and one of the most nervous and fastest lizards in the US. They are active at even the hottest of days and eat a variety on insects. Try to catch one and you won't have a lot of luck. My capture method for the CA ones is a 5 gallon bucket buried in the dirt where they hang out. Check the bucket early, before it gets hot, and there will usually be one at the bottom.

Here's a California version of a Whiptail. This guy actually ran on his hind legs only while motoring to this hole. But he was bold and insisted on coming out and looking around.

Beautiful!! We used to have sixlined racerunners and prairie racerunners here in Hunt County, TX, but when the fire ants came through in the early 1990's, they were wiped out. I haven't seen one in years. Such beautiful little reptiles . . .

Would have to disagree. That's the Geico lizard. Did you check for a British accent?
Oh, look. There's an Indian artifact in this thread! |

The first midsection looks like it was the middle of an etley and was happy to find it. Tried taking a few more pics of it to show flaking and its too reflective of material with light availible. Other than a few waterways this is the only field I will be hunting for a couple months, Stay tuned.
