Digging near Austin Texas

I'm new to the world of artifact hunting and like to go every chance I get. Ive been going to Oakalla ridge a lot and its getting kind of expensive. None of my friends share my new interest and it would be great to go with someone who's been doing this for a while. I also like to surface hunt and have been thinking about checking out onion creek or other spots closer to Austin but don't know where to go, so if anyones interested or has any advice or anything it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Roger

No offense Roger but if you think the Okalla Ridge dig is getting expensive then you need to start hunting creeks or give up artifacts. Digging in Texas has become quite expensive and places like Okalla are few and far between. They are cheap and usually not that productive but some times you find a good one or two.
Normally I spend on average a $100 every weekend by the time I add in my lease cost, fuel, eats, drinks and ice. I have paid as much as $200 for a day of hand digging. There for a while I was going to Palmers in Pipe Creek and it was so good I went every weekend almost for 3 months and it was $120 a day for hand digging.
If you want cheap you need to surface hunt rivers and creeks but with the price of gas it still ain't going to be cheap.
I know a lot of people in the artifact world and free digs are something that very few people get. I know I never get them and I am a nice guy, you can ask anyone who knows me except for the people that don't like me of course.

I figured as much, I've yet to enjoy a cheap hobby. I'm actually headed to oakalla when I finish my coffee... Thanks for the input!
