Finding Indian Camps
Today we went out and got some photos of the Indian camp where we found the points that we entered up for auction on this site. Figured it was a good idea to show where they were found and may be of some help for someone trying to locate campsites. This area we have always called Goverment springs and it is just up off the Columbia in the foothills. Used as a hunting and Current berry picking camp we found the points in and around the springs where they camped. Like all our camps it is closed and as you can see it is now a wind farm. Wind machines everywhere. Times change. Add some photo's of your camps if you want it would be fun to see them. First photo is of the Current bushes they harvested from. Second is photo of camp in background. Flat area across wash in all Indian camp. Third if you look just above the small tree on the other side you can see the bank where we dug for years. Now fenced off this is as close as I could get sorry. And the last the large green area is also all camp and has been cleared of Sage.

camps
lots of small camps around here, ive found single grinding holes in the middle of no where ,,looked around in wonder as to why this lone grinding hole could of been made here?? this picture is typical of the small campsites , several places have shelves of rock that have over two hundred grinding holes on them, in this area in the 1850s there were 700 braves in the one tribe,

Most of the camps in my area are small. And close together for protection and not to deplete the natural resources of a given area. Most likely family groups. Almost always near bedrock mortars close to water.
