Thanks for the lesson Neanderthal. Thats the kind of info I was looking for. Protection from the west......... duh. I lived there. But all I was looking at was protection from the north. Because that what I read in a book. But you have opened my eyes a lil bit. Thanks again.

We ended up looking for some arrowheads lastnight where we camped on the Illinois. We found one that was broken lengthwise in half and it looked pretty good. It took us about 15 minutes of looking to find that one in shallow water in the dark with the flashlight. We had all sorts of hopes about going out and looking today but we ended up on a canoe floating down river for a few hours and were too tired to hunt before we had to pack up and come home. Definitely look forward to looking on the river again. It seems more promising than our creek we've been looking in for a couple of years now. The water was definitely warmer. We probably floated over hundreds of points and didn't know it but the River was hard to navigate with all the debris in it and the currents.
I've been trying to study overhead satellite maps but I'm afraid the girly girl in me just isn't great at reading topography and maps. We enjoy camping and the outdoors so much that we are bound to find something good one of these days in the area. The real problem has been everytime we go over some good water with banks, we can't get down to it because it is blocked off with fence and huge boulders to prevent people from going onto the property. Given we don't fish or hunt, we don't have the knowledge of the terrain or very many clever ways to get to the remote areas as we would if we had a boat or something. Right now we are just starting to get our independence with traveling and point hunting that we are probably missing out on the obvious spots not realizing where to look. I definitely have an eye for what i should be looking for (on the ground anyway) and I'm sure there are more under the dirt than on top of the dirt. If we are around popular swimming spots they are likely to be picked up right away by all the visitors. We are just going to have to up our game to get ahead of the other people who are going to see things on the ground long before we ever get there to see it. |

I camped at war eagle a couple of weeks ago and hunted when I could but didn't find squat. We're going back the 16th so Ill try again. There were some big camps in that part of the country.

We used a canoe from War Eagle actually. That place looked nice. I'd love to get to hunt with you sometime just to get some good tips I can use on my own elsewhere. I've never hunted with anyone before to see how they do it. Hell I'll cook you an excellent ribeye for the trade off

Grady county isn't too far from me. I used to live in Chickasha. Unfortunately, the hunting here is bad because we are in the worst drought category you can be in. Exceptional drought. You may have to hit the Canadian or Wa****a Rivers to have any luck.
