So what do you think? Deal or Dud?

I bought these two Hixton pieces from Wisconsin on EBay tonight. The bigger one is going straight to Dwain Rogers as soon as I get it in, and if it doesn't check out, straight back to the seller! That being said, it comes with a good guarantee and a good back story. So what do you guys think?

If Deal means authentic, then you got a Deal. The seller is one of the better ones in my opinion.

If Deal means Hixton Clovis for that price, I'd say you got a Dud. It looks like a worked spall to me, not an intentional Clovis point.

I'm not 100% sure . . . I'll have to study the edgework when I get it. I think it might be a final stage Clovis preform, but I'm not sure. It's a fascinating study piece, regardless.

i'd have to examine the pair in-hand to give you an honest opinion. The seller has a good record and a good refund period but like Joshua stated that " Clovis " may be a quickly made knife or worked spall judging from the pics. Good luck.

It certainly IS hixton which is more than I can say for a lot of things sold on there as being hixton. It looks like more of a re-touched spall than an actual point though. I will also say that this guy was putting out some fake copper artifacts for a while. I accidentally got stuck with one, should have known better but that's another story, when I got the piece in hand it was obvious. He took it back and gave a full refund, no questions asked. For a while after that I seen more copper fakes though- haven't seen any in a while now but it did happen.

Based on the pix, i would opine that the small point is o.k., and the "Clovis" is modern. JMHO. Looking forward to your follow-up, and for your sake i hope i'm wrong.

Hope the best for you Lewis. If the big one is legit you got a great score for the money. Nice looking material.
