Totally fear finding a...
You guessed it...A dead body.
This fear got multiplied when lasttime we went hunting, right off the road I inavertantly parked next to what was a leg of fresh meat about 2 feet long atleast, no skin, no blood around, hip socket still there, no foot and it was the color of chicken breast meat and in the 100+ degree weather was not rancid. It creeped me out bigtime! I don't know if I have an irrational fear of this based on the fact that I've watched so many real life crime shows and studied psychopathology/serial killers. But the storylines where the body gets dumped always goes like this: A local fishman/hunter was out and discovered the remains. I am not a hunter, so I'm not as familiar with splicing open animals, but I'd like to think I could recognize any part of the human body at this point in my studies. So when I smell something, which is not uncommon in the wilderness, I start wondering if I'm smelling a dead body that's been dumped off somewhere. I know this is morbid, but it is something that *could* happen when you are out looking for arrowheads (or even changing your tire on the side of the road I suppose!) but I'm not sure if it's an irrational fear or something that others thing about as well. I don't think about it when I'm way out off the main road because it wouldn't be easy to tote someone out that far. But the rivers do yeild accidental deaths all the time. Someone has to find those bodies.....I just don't want it to be me! Some places you have to walk through to get to where you are going can show signs of nefarious activities. I guess the worst comes to mind for me. When I see trash dumped off, matresses burned, random clothing in the forest.....I start to think "Exhibit A" "Exhibit B"...... Thoughts on this would be appreciated. Just don't tell me I'm nuts.

I guess you could say I share that same fear. I go to such remote locations and I always fear the worse. Alot of places I get myself into, i always think to myself..... that looks like a place somebody would dump a body. And occsionally I find recent dumps with like one black trash bag.. Makes ya wonder and It's a creepy feeling. I came across such realistic looking baby dolls with hair on head, and it took every nerve I had to get close up and examine. I discovered something pretty morbid on one of my first creek hunts. I found a decapitated dog head. Clean cut, as if on purpose,, sitting on a gravel bar like a soccer ball. I start to think Deliverance movie when I'm in the creeks and rivers and it leaves an uneasy feeling sometimes. It also didn't help when Shaun Hornbeck came up missing for all them years(Richwoods is near where I hunt sometimes)..... thank god they found him and is ok now, but I often fear coming across a dead body. It would just suck being a suspect, and would be disturbing.
I think I put the fear into others more than a couple times accidently. So much so, the cops showed up questioning me. One time I was digging and it was hot and was covered in mud and I heard a bunch of teeny girls sounding like they were at the mall taking a shortcut through where I was digging. They were taking a direct route to where I was digging. Well, when they got about 20 ft from me, I stood up with my shovel and all hell broke loose. All I heard were screaming teen girls freakin out, running for there life as if I was chasing them with a chainsaw Maybe they thought I was burying a body. If I was unaware of artifact diggin and came across somethiung similar, I'm sure I'd be thinking something similar!

Years back I stumbled over a very realistic dummy fixed up for Halloween while squirrel hunting. Sure gave me the willies!

My buddy and I found a dead body about 8 years ago. We were not hunting but we were driving looking for a place to hunt on an old dirt road and noticed tire tracks going off the side and down over this steep enbankment. There was a Columbia Gas truck down there and we looked inside of it and the guy was slouched up over the steering wheel. No cell phone service and scared to death we drove into where we did have service and called the police. We told them where it was and all that good stuff. About two hours later we get a call from the police and they cannot find it. Asked us if they could follow us out to where it was. So they followed us out there. They said he had a heart attack and was dead for a couple of days before we found him.
I often think to myself when out hunting aboout finding another. As Neralicjh said also the garbage bag always throw me for a loop and gets me thinking as well.

Ya I fear the same. Keep thinking I'm gonna dig up some ded person and all he'll break loose. Good thing is I carry a nice pick and other items on me when I go. I also take items to survive in case of an emergency. Never know what might happen!

I haven't found any that I wasn't looking for but if I do happen on a body accidentally.....no big deal, just call the authorities and let them at it. Sure there will be some questions, but unless you know the person and had a known feud with them, it won't be a big deal.....you'll be on your way shortly.

Makes me feel better reading that I'm not the only one. But as a few mentioned about garbage bags, definitely get me thinking when I see them too.

A couple of years ago, I recall in East St. Louis (Illinois side) Black trash bags were being dumped with the bodies of the killers victims. This went on over a course of a couple of years and every so often another black trash bag would be discovered with some innoscent victims remains. I beleive they finally caught this serial killer, but it was not without years of detective work.

I fear winning the lotto
You probably have a better chance of hitting the lotto than finding a dead human body.

CCB, aren't you the same person who said you'd love to own a human skull in the "skull" thread?
Granted, tripping on a dead body is a different thing but I thought it was pretty funny, the contradiction, all the same.
