That is absurd. Most of them have been covered or not picked up! LOL
There is a finite number of them and they are a limited "resource". They ain't makin' 'em anymore. No, wait, durnit they ARE still making them! That's another post.

I think a decent percentage of those points exposed by plowing may well have been picked up. Especially whole ones that haven't been damaged. Good spots for growing crops, around here, happen to be a lot of the same spots that are good for hunting so that's a good thing but they're not going to be plowing any deeper and the fields have been hunted for years. Comparing today versus the 50's/early 60s when deeper plowing by mechanical means was first happening here I can see where it would appear as though most have already been picked up but I think the reality is only that many spots have been hunted so hard for so long that one's chances of finding something have decreased greatly.I know of a field that has a buffalo trace and two springs by it. They say people used to walk around with buckets and just find them left and right. The field is not that way anymore.

As for the percentage of points in existence which have been discovered.... I'd be surprised if we've found more than 1%.

When Surface hunting spots get put pressure on them, you can def see a decline in finds! If you find a feild unhunted, or a road, or a dozed area that is unhunted, it is usually prime for the picking! But after years of hitting the same spots, your persistence beats the tine it takes to erode artifacts! Then it's every once in awhile after a hard rain you can score! But I agree with Doc Dave, there are plenty out there to find, and plenty of spots that haven't been hammered! There used to be nothing but sandy fields out here to hunt, and the collections are ridiculous from the old-timers! but now 90 % are coastal grass fields and the points are just not uncovered!

I've gotten the same thing from a few farmers. In some cases it is probably true, considering how many farms here have been on the same land since the 1600s, but I'd rather get a flat out no than hear some bs like that.
