The type was defined by Dr.Harry Shafer based on 40+ years of fieldwork in Bell Co. and adjacent areas. It will be fully published in the 3rd ed of
Stone Artifacts of Texas Indians...to appear later this year or early 2012. I am not able to get to the Evant illustrations until Mon. or so, but will try to post several then or early next wk. TRH |

I thought it was a misprint for the Evans point . . . I see I was wrong.

The half dozen I have circled were selected as type examples. The other two seem like the same type to me, not sure why the nicer one wasn't included.
Local collectors have been calling them "Carrollton" based on their shape, but they don't fit Carrollton in time or space. They generally have lightly ground stems. These heavy duty points seem to follow somewhere behind the Wells points found in the Burnet, Lampasas, Bell, Coryell & Hamilton county area. The namesake town of Evant is on the Western side of Coryell county. That's most of what I know about them, hopefully Tom has additional examples and will give us some more info on how they came to be called Evant and other relevant info. Thanks, David

Thanks for posting that David. I have seen a few points like the nice one on the top left that have been called Long Stemmed Bulverde's. Never really bought into that myself.

David I found both of these points in Kendall County and really don't know what they might be. The one on the left maybe an Ango or related but the other?

Bobby,
The one on the right fits, it will be interesting to see how far South the distribution is recognized. I was a little surprised to see the top left dip stemmed point included. Actually was a little surprised at the whole Evant type, but glad to see a name for these. Thanks, David
