army stations for hunting areas
Hello all i just have a question for anyone who may know. I will be allowed to reenlist for station of choice here soon if i want (not sure) but i would consider if i could go someplace with good arrowhead hunting. So far ive thought about fort hood and fort sam houston in texas, and fort irwin california. Does anyone know about the any of those areas, or does anyone have any other recommendations? Its crazy but being able to get out and hunt has a big factor on wether i stay in or just go to college instead.

I have a buddy that used to dig on Fort Hood many, many years ago and that's all he ever talks about. He said that is the most amazing place and it is loaded with artifacts but now you DO NOT want to get caught digging there.
Maybe if you are a soldier and are stationed there you might get permission from a higher up but I wouldn't do it unless you did get the OK. |

yeah i would in no way consider doing much hunting or digging on the base. Im just generally looking for a base that within an hour drive or so i can do decent hunting, and maybe meet up with whoever is in the area. But i want to learn more about hunting in texas, and give an attempt at digging, to see what all the rave is about

Hi soldier.# 1,Thank you for your SERVICE. #2 Not taking anything away from all the very good hunters there are on this site from all over the USA,I would say that Texas hunters are doing the best, and they sure know there stuff. I am in Cleveland Ohio. The people who hunt the south part of Ohio also do very well. Hit me with a PM any time,I will try to help. be safe.........EDDIE

Hi soldier I hunt quite near Fort Irwin. You have the Silver Lake/Mohave type site about 45 miles to the east, however much of the area is now Preserve. California isn't exactly hunter friendly and good points in the area are few and far between. I strongly recommend Texas, if you don't mind the weather it has a lot to offer..........especially the people. If you happen to end up down here let me know.

Fort Hood is smack dab in the middle of plenty of great spots to hunt. As far as huntin in the winter you sure wont have to worry bout snow cover more than 2 or 3 days all winter long. I found my first point on Fort Hood property as a Boy Scout back in the 70's. We were on a hike and I just happened to look down and there it was.
Thanks for your service sir. |
