Cleaning Stabilizing Bone?
Recently found a probable butchering site and a Levanna point along with some associated animal bones. A few of the bones seem to have started fossilizing but most are very light and airy with a soft feel to them but still have solid structure.
Does anyone have experience cleaning and stabilizing bone like this? I don't think some water and a toothbrush would hurt if I gently scrubbed some of the dirt off, but don't want to damage them. Also have considered using a wood hardening product, it's a liquid you brush on that almost makes the wood plasticized, can't remember the name of it though. Also would love to know what the bone is from, one piece looks like a large socket, is it possible to get a DNA test and if so how expensive is that? Thanks, Kyle

Yep, duco and acetone
"Conservator's and Collector's Choice" Boom. I clean 'em first with a soft brush and warm water, then use the "Gomer's Solution" when all dry. Chek Yur Email. Last edited by tomclark; 09-14-2011 at 05:25 PM. |
