Congratulations, don't get to keep em but you do get to find em. Sounds like a wish has been at least half granted Should be fun.

Maybe you could sneak something small out.. if they're literally falling out of the walls, I don't see the harm in taking a flake or something.

Yeah, digging your own site is nice, but it is backbreaking work. You also have a small window of opportunity after a rain and before the ground dries back up.

I would love to dig a virgin 15 acre mother load calf creek site!
Id have to agree with steve on the bluffs around st.louis. There are alot of untouched areas around here. I live near chesterfield and I believe it was last year or the year before that they uncovered a sister site believed to be connected from Cahokia right there in the chesterfield bottoms of the missouri river. Something like 14000 artifacts (iirc from the article i read) or so were pulled from the dirt by an archaeology team and whats neat is it was such a small excavation site that I know had to cover alot more area than what they processed. They were building a retention pond originally and were turning up ear spools and all kinds of great things from what I hear so a team was called in. Id like to find more info on where these artifacts went to because it would be great to have a look at what they found. Hopefully they dont end up in a box covered in dust stored away in a museum somewhere.

Anyways sorry for the rant but Id really like to hunt the st.louis area 75 years ago. Alot of prime artifacts came out of this area and I couldnt imagine being at Cahokia during the time where the good stuff was being pulled out of the ground. Id have to say Id love to be part of Spiro too! If we could only go back in time!

I know of several local farming families that have 5 gallon buckets full of points that they picked up 50 years ago and it was no big deal to them, and still isnt today. Its just amazing to see the amount of stuff that comes from the st.louis/st.charles co area.

I really do feel blessed to be in a state like Missouri that has great artifact hunting and some of my favorite places are less than a mile out my backdoor. You can almost bet that any ditch/bluff/areas around the local creeks and rivers will have artifacts.... I just cant imagine what lies uncovered around here. I am actually working in western st.charles (cave springs rd area) right on a missouri bluffline looking at several well known sites that have turned up some amazing documented finds in the past. Just wish I could have been there 40 years ago!!!

Anywhere, since I daydream about being out looking anywhere just about every day.

But, a real dream would be to dig a Hopewell mound like in the old days and find a pipe like the Bedford Beaver.

There's a spot about 10 miles from my house that my brother and I hunted once back in the '80s...Found about 40 "good" points in one afternoon, including a couple in the Hardaway/Dalton family...When the owner found out he said "no more" and put up gates and NO TRESPASSING signs. I assume he's been hunting the spot the past 25 years, and it eats me up to think about it. Of course, it's his land, so I can't really fault him for it I guess. :/

Cool pipe but honestly I keep my open for anything with a Beaver on it. LOL

My dream hunt is at my lease, I just dream of the time I can dig every day instead of every weekend.

My dream hunt would be my backyard with a major site on it from paleo to woodland. Tons of high grade rhyolite material and crystal quartz I wouldn't have to get in the car and go anywhere. (There's not a site in my backyard thats the dream part)
