How Far?

How far do you usually travel to go hunting? I usually travel about 200 miles round trip for a one day hunt.

I hunt about 28 different sites all together, closest one is 1.5 miles away and the farthest is about 48 miles.

Apple Hill is about twenty miles each way. My other favorite spot is Ten miles one way And a couple of local spots within walking distance about 3 miles round trip. No telling how far I walk once on site.

I radiate out up to 2 hours away drive time in any direction. That is my preset limit. Most are within an hour and a half away. The two hour drive is mainly to one productive area. As gas prices rise more and more, I try to favor the closer in ones. But sorry to say that the 1/2 hour or less drives to reasonably productive areas are fairly limited in number for me.

My favorite spots are about 1200 miles north of me in Indiana, and between 1,500 and 4,000 miles south of me. There's a shell midden I can hunt in walking distance of my house (or a 3 minute drive.) There are also several medium to large Tequesta and Calusa mounds scattered around our town, but not huntable.

The nearest place to my house that I have traveled to find anything is about 50 miles away. The farthest is about 1150 miles.

My best field is 28 mile round trip. 6 other spots with in 10 miles. One of my favorite spots is 50 miles one way. But guess what! My neighbor told me he has seen "Arrowheads" in his field! Less than 1/2 mile from my front door!! Went out earlier in the week and found flakes and firerock!!!!! Natural creek about 150-200 yards from were I took the picture. And he also said he seen a perfect one twice...same one. Asked him why he didnt pick it up....Just a rock he said. He said if he sees any more he will pick them up for me.

The only ranch that I'm allowed to look on is about 32 miles away. Its next to impossible to find a place to look down here!
