Hi all,
I found and joined your site a week or so ago and am finally getting the chance to introduce myself. I'm John, I live in RI and am new to actually researching and digging for arrowheads/artifacts. I have a rather large collection of points/tools that have been found, some by me, but mostly by family members from our past 14 generations while farming our property. I can drive to Narragansett Bay in about 10 minutes and to the Atlantic ocean on south coast in about 30 minutes. I am hoping to post some pics tonight of things in my collection to hopefully gain some insight on what I have and what eras they come from.
I have what I think is a recessional moraine on part of our property, it's lots of BIG rocks, some piled but mostly laid flat. The piles are mostly all on the downslope of north facing slopes. One is on a south facing slope with huge rocks that look to me like they could have been used as part of shelters of some sorts. On the flats the rocks are a single layer with most of the rock buried. I will get some pics this weekend so you can see it. The rocks are mostly granite with veins of mostly smokey quartz but some have the white quartz. I have a lot of white quartz points. Did the past inhabitants used the rocky outcrops? There are a lot of big rocks and some have well worn small holes in them where it looks like something was taken out and worked smooth. We have found some perfectly round rocks that were supposedly rounded by glacial movement.
You have a great site with great information. Thanks for any info, John

welcome neighbor.....post up some pics, would love to see them! End moraine is certainly a possibility, I have it here as well, I'm not sure if they used them for shelter or not but I don't see why they wouldn't.

Welcome from central IL. Can't wait to see your collection. Nothing better than generations of artifacts from a family farm!

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't posted back, It's been pretty busy around here. Beef Cows, horses, poultry, working a full time job, a 3 year old and 5 degree weather don't leave me much recreating time. I will get some pics on tomorrow night, I've designated myself some down time and I should be able to get some pics of the moraine and possible campsites on Sunday. Take care, John

I took a few pics, not sure how they came out as i'm not on my normal computer. Let me know how they are. These are some items that I had washed. I have a lot more. These were all found on our property. John
