A question regarding flint
Hi everyone - I frequently search in creeks. I find all kinds of rock - shale and so forth, light pieces. I've found several hard stone points. But for some reason I normally do NOT find flint. I found one small flake and one small unfinished arrowhead, and that's it. I search in creeks in Western New York, if that helps. Thoughts?

I live in an area that doesn't produce much flint artifacts but mainly quartz and quartzite. Probably any I find here was brought in. However, I can drive 20-30 miles in any direction and it's not so uncommon to find it. Flint / chert just does not occur in some places!

An even more interesting thing is that just 14 miles away, there was once a huge fine of TONS of flint arrowheads. Must have been a hunting ground. Since I like the flint pieces, I find this somewhat disappointing. Thanks!

Hello, Google your state for archaeological sites, I believe Rochester area, especially south has a number of them, just might help. Lou

Never quit looking , all bare dirt,
plowed gardens, new construction, with permission of coarse , these are always good places to look . GregBlood |
