Screens

What type of screens are you using ? My screen has 1/4" inch openings But the only type I can find around here is hardware cloth which is welded wire that I have replaced 4 times since I started the apple hill dig . Artifact Jack has been using the same screen for years made from woven wire. My screens has runs in it after a few digs or maybe I work to hard .

I use the same type of wire as you and I have to replace it about every month. I am about to build me a new big sifter out of 1/4 flat expanded metal. It's kinda expensive, but it will never wear out. I am going to build a 4x4 sifter with a pipe frame and pipe legs and just leave it at my site. I should never have to worry about a sifter again.

I have never replaced the wire on my screen, even after 20 years of use. It is good galvanized hardware cloth with 1/2" mesh. I use a slip in 1/4" one when expecting ant and grasshopper points.
