Indian Quarries in New England

Hello Everyone, I have learned that in my area, Merrimack Valley/Southeastern NH that the natives used to quarry soapstone in my area. I know that they probably didnt quarry the way Europeans did, but what are the signs to look for, any advice would be greatly appreciated. There is an area that I will look weather permitting that has or could have been a quarry area. Thanks for any help, info.
