Why couldn't your site have been both a flint knapping site and a habitation site - but at different times in history? I think it is short-sighted to assume that a site could not have been utilized as both over the span of thousands of years.
An old knapping site, once littered with flint debitage, would eventually be covered in soil. So, why couldn't a later group come along a few hundred or thousand years later and build structures on the same site? They wouldn't have to worry about stepping on sharp flint flakes because those are now buried due to the passage of time and newly formed soil layers. Just my opinion. But, I would keep looking at that site after every good rain... Britt
