Has anyone seen the videos on You tube of a guy name Richardrockhouse. He posts almost daily videos of him arrowhead hunting with incredible success. It seems like he finds at least a few of them each day. Does anyone else out there have success like this? Is this the norm for experienced arrowhead hunters? I love to watch his videos and wonder, what is his secret? Good spots, good luck, experience, all of the above?

"Gee Mo Neez, that's a G-10"
Yeah, I've seen them. Richard makes some killer finds for sure and has some great spots to hunt. Check out his web site as well. Lots of killer finds on there and I believe they are all for sale, though I think his prices are outrageous. Home

No its not the norm, but he has some great spots and yes the videos are very cool. Also check out flintobsessions on youtube, they have some good vids and spots, richard was digging at they're overhang with em a while back and found a killer clovis, it was in my county, talk about motivation!

A Clovis at an overhang ...interesting. I wonder how much information was lost at that site? SH

Really? How many Clovis points have been found at overhangs? Very few.
How many Clovis habitation sites have been found at overhangs? Even fewer. You can probably count them on one hand. Was this a Clovis site or was the point carried in by later people? Dates, context, and a close look at stratigraphy would have helped answer that... |

I love watching Richards finds. I enjoy even more watching him do the digging with Tim and Robert from Flintobsessions. I will hopefully be hunting with them this July when I make the trip down there. Richard has saved a lot of artifacts from potential destruction from either natural processes or construction. I remember one of his greatest videos is the Glen Beasley Cache found fathers day of 2010! Awesome video! I strongly recommend it
I'm at work now, but I can post a link when i'm done. Richard is a great guy, and very very generous. I have received 2 packages from him filled with tools, and points. He did a Karma bag give away for a few people, and I was fortunate enough to receive one. Klintworth |

Dont really understand the comment wonder how much info was lost at that site... I think that these videos are great... when I think of all the sites I've lost due to construction, in the name of forward progress, it makes me glad that people are taking it in thier own hands to dig and try to salvage these points...
When I think about all the sites that are being farmed, and the land owner will not allow thousands of points to be saved, and dont pick them up themselves... It kinda makes me sick.. They just lay out and get hit by farm equipment year after year... Or constuction crews dig a big hole and push Mounds and artifacts in them so that the job can go on as to meet a deadline... Thats what makes me wonder how much is lost... I wonder how much is lost in drawers in the basement at the universitys all over the country, and how much is stolen from them also.. I like Richard, The screwdriver doesnt bother me a bit, when I consider heavy equipment, and farm machinery.... It seems some forget all these other things... I have seen digs in my area done to clear a construction site for construction.. They bring in a back hoe and remove the first foot of soil and then dig test pits. I have seen this time again here in my home town, I have found points in the dirt pushed to the side. Is that a safe way to do it? There are just to many sites and not enough money for archys to be involved in all of everthing going on... I would rather see an amature find them as to have them destroyed forever........

Flintstone, I think what is being referred to is that when someone digs a site, versus surface finds, there is a lot of archaelogical information that isn't gathered and recorded on an academic level.
There are more sites than money to have them properly excavated, as you said, and there are more lost to construction than by collector/diggers but that doesn't change the fact that his digging destroys valuable information. It's a two sided coin and I can see it from both perspectives. It's an easy topic to argue from either angle. Darned if you do and darned if you don't.
