Test Hole # 2

I started a test hole next to the pounding rock and followed the bed rock down and drifted along the rock bottom. Not much to show for a couple hours digging one busted mano and some chips. When it hit 90 I quit I might try it in the morning digging is hard work I think I like surface hunting better. A few pieces of charcoal out of the bottom.

That little round screen is for Gold mining to classify before it goes in the sluice. But it fits in my day pack and it holds about one shovel full about all I felt like screening at a time ha ha

That charcoal looks promising.

You could try rigging up a tarp to keep the sun off of you.

From what I have read, pounding acorns was "women's work", so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't find a whole bunch of men's toys i.e.arrowheads right there. Then again, I have not done a dig yet. I'd be on the lookout for where chips of material (chert, obsidian, basalt) show up. Probably where the men made their goods

I find points right next to pounding holes and have know of a few burials right in the kitchen also. This is red dirt country so I thought I would start right on the edge of the darker soil and work my way out. But I have been talking about doing this for thirty years and that's the first hole I dug.
