Pictures!! Fluted Paint Rock Point (?)
Ok, this time with the pictures
(though not the best quality)! From L to R 1) Side A 2) Side B 3) Front view of the flute 4) Tip view showing the beveling on opposite side 5) Side view of the flute Hello, I've got a question on a point I.D.? My name is Robert (Ga. Rob) and I have only been into hunting artifacts since April 2011, so I'm still a greenhorn at this but.. A little over a month ago, I found this point that I think maybe a Paint Rock Valley but would love some advice. If you think it maybe something else please don't hesitate. Here is what I know: It is 1 1/4 inches long and 1 in. wide made of quartz found in N.E. Georgia. Has basel thinning on the (B) side and what looks to be a flute on the (A) side. It is not ground on the base but does have a very small spot on each side at the base that that is flat and smooth that kind of looks ground. These are not on the derect sides but more at an angle. It has some really nice 2nd flaking (beveling ?) on the opposite side of each face. If I have missed anything please ask and I will add the info. Thanks for the time Ga Rob |

Thanks Comanche!!
Man what a sweet point that is you posted in my first thread. Do you know where I could go to see more pictures of some PRV points? I have to say that I love quartz but it's not great for showing off flaking. I took a closer look at mine after looking at yours and on the (B) side, though hard to see, it has flaking like yours. Can't see it on the other side due to the flute and (my favorite part) the fine edge work. I will say that what ever it is, it really is a sweet point to look at first hand! If I do say so myself!

Robert.
I am Glad you Posted this one. The Paint Rock Valley is a Pretty rare type.I have misidentified it before. The Flaking is Very key to this point type. The other factors involved in the variations to the base must be considered as well. The fact that yours is made of Quartz makes it even rarer! I would really like to hold this one. Here is a pretty good on-line index for point identification.
