My 2011 results

I have been holding off posting these in the hopes of adding to them late in the year. Even hoped to get out yet today, but that fell apart. Having an open Winter so far gave me some hope. Found a few things. But the dry conditions pretty much held me back on the finds. So here is my Best of 2011 group shots coming almost a bit late. Had better results in 2011 than most recent years though. Well timed ample rain made the difference I believe.

A close-up of a few of the nicer ones.

'Groovey' Grooved finds, to include my smallest ever axe. The break on the black one sure was a bummer.

Scrounged out a few late season finds. Had to use tactics I don't always care to use. But that scored me a few so-so December finds. My first ever for here locally. So at least that makes them special in that way.

The first one here below is a scraper with some size factor going for it compared to what is normal for around here.

Next up is my first ever December point. Is just a simple triangle, but I was happy to find it. As was the only one for me this month.

Thanks everyone for all of your fantastic posted finds on here this past year. I'm truly impressed with all of the high quality artifacts still being found around the Country. Is a thrill to be able to see. So thanks for sharing. And hope you all find your best ever in 2012.

I will post up some In-Situ find threads as the Winter progresses of some of these finds. Until then, as the sun has set on another Artifact Season, I bid it farewell with this shot in honor of some great days afield and some memorable finds. Now, I best hurry up and get this last post of mine for 2011 finished up to beat my own midnight deadline.. 10-9-8-7-6-5-4 -LOL! Hope you all enjoy,,,questor

Thanks Lewis, it's a fave of mine now too. Believe me, I have searched high and low to finally find me one of these. I will do the In-Situ thread post on it in the near future for ya. I had a great double find day that day. So stay tuned for that one coming soon.

Nice looking finds for 2011 Mike. Four Axes in one year is a exceptional year in my book. I really like that point made from Conglomerate. That piece is just to cool.

Steve V - The 'conglomerate' one will continue to fascinate me for the rest of my days as well. That one will be hard to beat for fossil bearing type material as far as I am concerned, at least for me here.

I've been at 1 or 2 axes per year for awhile now. So ya, 4 or 5 is definitely a bit unreal these days. I don't go out expecting them anymore at least, that's for sure. I really do feel extremely fortunate, and thank my lucky stars.

I have only found 4 Axes total in my 46 years of hunting, so 1 or 2 a year is just incredible to me. I have bought quite a few nice ones over the years at very reasonable prices though. I think I have around 15 now and I've never paid more than $40 for one.

Way to go Questor. Those are some pretty good looking finds. Some wonderful, complete points in there. I love that Iowa sunset as well. No better place on earth in my opinion. Hope you have a great 2012.
