What Jay sez, MM. Though I remain uncommitted on Cluton's frag, with the
lack of the vertical thinnning flakes.

Lillyput: typology is a tool, not a sacred object (cue the violins),
and types are important for what they tell us about the people in a
certain region at a certain point in time. With luck, we have sites
that get excavated with associated tools, hearths, fauna, etc., so
that the points are just l part of the context. I don't think such
exists for Black Rock Concave Base (Heizer and Hester 1978; Great
Basin Projectile Points: Forms and Chronology)
Thanks for
your comments on the 3rd ed. Clarify for me...did you add the fiberboard to the inside covers? The publisher should have provided a heavier cover,
but they didn't ask us (publishers are all geniuses and never ask the
authors about such thangs). At least they listened to the hell we
raised about the first two kindergarten-level cover designs...

I'm working on info I have from "The Prehistory Of Texas" published by Texas A&M University Press. I realize that this is just a basic primer on Texas Archaeology, but the all too brief section on Paleo Typology concerning SMH does not jive with what is presented here. Is this book antiquated and more recent work invalidates this published description or what gives? By the way I enjoyed your section on South Texas Seco. I appreciate your lasting contributions to the knowledge base of Texas archaeology and prehistory.

Thanks guys! Seco, always a pleasure, and this point came from Bastrop County about 500 yds from were Collins did some work! It does have very nice edgework, and I'm also certain it's not a St Marys Hall! It's a fragment of course, but 2 Folsoms have come off this site and multiple Midlands and Milesands! So who knows, I guess there isn't enough there to make a good guess! I appreciate the info and sorry about the other people hittin you up!! I'm glad you chimed in, like all the others with good info! I'll just have to find a whole one day that seals the deal! Thanks again everybody! Sorry for the poor pics, I tried to do the best I could!

Here are a few BR points of mine and a profile pic to show how typically flat and thin they are.

Here are a few from Mike Rondeau’s report “A STUDY OF PROJECTILE POINTS AT THE PHOEBE A. HEARST MUSEUM, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY” from July, 2011. Used with permission:

Here is a comparison between a Blackrock and the Blackwater Draw “Midland”
Both have a width of 21.6 mm and a thickness of 5.1 mm, W/T = 4.2.

Those are interesting! For sure! Nice pics and I get what your saying now about the similar characteristics of those! My "fragment" is very thin and does have a few thinning strikes on one side! If that helps!? The flaking is throwing me off though! I read that some Midlands have oblique flaking, I'll have to find the source!

Always amazing what a part of a point can generate for quality information. Great post Cluton!

Thank you Dr. Hester for the summation. Yes, the cover, especially my front cover had to be given a stronger foundation. Does not matter as I plan on adding a inside pocket next for notes. [retro fitting]
