Good examples of SW AR heat treated novaculite. Most of these big heat treated novaculite blades are products of a late archaic trade industry. There are large chipping sites in the material source area, but most of the finished points are found well away from the source, up to 150 miles, and most are south of the Ouachita Mountain source.

Killer examples.Nothing like a big ole piece made of Novaculite.Would the first blade be considered a Marshall?

very nice points , i am guessing they heat treated them later, or did they heat treat then make a pre-form?

Those are great examples.
I have always liked that material and so did Greg Perino.
If anyone ever gets a chance to scuba dive Lake Millwood you will get to see a lake bottom covered with all the colors of a Novaculite rainbow.
Many artifacts made of this great material are on the bottom, just don't pick them up.

Greg called it a Little River, and I like that call.

Most of the debris I have seen makes me think they heated whole cobbles on river sites, and heated blanks on quarry sites. The common material is white and grey, but has iron that causes red, pink, and orange color when heated.
Some occurs naturally with color, but still works easier after heating.
