Thank you, Bobby
Well today was the day for me to "guest teach" my neighbor's Freshman class at the local high school. This was supposed to have been done about 6 weeks ago, but had to be delayed until today. The last time I taught there (different subject) I did two classes back-to-back, which didn't give me much time for each one and I had to teach the same things twice. But today they combined the classes, twice the kids but double the amount of time, which was easier. Two other teachers who were on their lunch hour also wanted to sit in for it, as they heard about it and wanted to hear my talk.
A little less than 90 days ago, Bobby sent this AWESOME box of artifacts to me for this class. Due to the sheer amount of great stuff in there, I knew these kids would go absolutely bananas, which they did. I seperated everything out into artifact types, each kid got one each out of the three types Bobby sent, and I also included a pottery shard and a hammer or knap stone in each bag. I knew once I passed these bags out that I wouldn't be able to do much for a few minutes, as each one got to look thru it all and check it out. So I discussed certain things first, but once I got into tool making and knapping, I wanted them to be able to hold the pieces and see what I was talking about. Picture #1 is a group shot for Bobby, the kids were so very grateful and the teachers were stunned that they were taking it home with them. #2 is a pic of the contents of a typical bag I handed out. I had my other frames of artifacts there, and they really got into it. A BIG thank you to Ryan (Ghost Recon) for everything you sent, from the recent knapped cheapies, the points from your area, the re-chips and gun flints. I was able to go into greater detail having these pieces there, and the gun flints made some of the kids sit up straight and say "cool!" "Didn't know you could find those today!" Mike (High Sierra) sent me some awesome beads which was great to have since I didn't have any others, and Kyle (Buckeye) sent me this awesome fake but very real looking 3/4 groove axe. Some of the kids were seriously bumming when I turned it around and showed them the "fake" scratched into it! When the teacher asked if I had any needs to do this class, I said just one; That I would be able to take a pic of all the kids holding up one of the pieces Bobby sent around a big "thank-you" sign. So, here it is. Thanks Bobby, from me and and every one of them. |

That's awesome Scotto. Bobby is a great guy and I know he sent packages out to numerous people, myself included. If I had known I would have sent along some pieces as well. Next time you do this let me know and I'm sure I can come up with something to send to you.

Hey Scotto , that is very cool. Put me on your list of people to get in touch with if you ever do it again. I would love to help out. I bet they would love to see some points and flakes of Petrified palm wood.

Scott that one picture is worth more than all the stuff I sent you and the kids but now after seeing all those happy kids I wish I would have went ahead and sent them all a complete point each. I find probably more than my share of artifacts so I see no reason sharing my finds with others. The only thing that would have been better is if I could have been there with you while you were passing on knowledge.
You and those kids are more than welcome and a special thanks to all of the other members that helped you out. I think there are some really good people on this forum and I am proud to be in their company. Next time and anytime you need help just ask.

Very nice Scotto and Bobby. I gave a presentation to my daughter's 4th grade class this year, and I don't know who enjoyed it more, me or them. I loved sharing everything Hannah and I had learned and found in our first year, and the class was very excited I was coming, and listened to every word I had to say. They even had a ton of questions afterwards. It was a very rewarding experience for me and them. The highlight of my presentation was when I got to give them artifacts at the end that were donated by some incredibly generous members on this site. The students were so excited going through the artifacts picking out their favorites. It is great you take the time to share with the class, and it is awesome that people donate to these causes.
