Here's some Oolitic chert from Va., points, a core ( bottom piece ) and some close-ups. I always called it frog egg chert until I was told what it really is. It's a really cool looking material imo.

Hey thanks for the info Steve. Those are some killer points you guys are posting.
Keep'em coming guys! Never quite knew what they were, but I knew they were something so I hung on to them. Now I can put a name on the box and stop calling them petrified algae. Had a butmunch " Professor " whom I met on the River way up in Mississippi tell me that it was petrified algae. He gave me and Headright 51 a whole history lesson on glaciers and the such which was only a front to tell us the laws in Mississippi were different than those in Louisiana. Basically he was beating around the bush only to tell us to get the fork off his beach. Here are some of my (what I now know to be) oolites that I've collected. ![]()

Traveler, that point is killer. I have similar material, different colors. I'll post them soon. Hope I get to check out your collection some day.

I noticed that they are very similar. Your first piece looks really close to the darker variety I find. Nice artifacts man.
