Youtube question

I'm kinda new to the video thing on Youtube, got a question.

Does anyone know how to change the still image shown when your video is pulled up? It must be some "automatic software" thing that grabs an image, and sometimes it grabs the ugliest piece I found to have as an opening pic.

Take my latest vid as an example..I'd love to have it show the killer blade I found, instead it "chose" one ugly broke I found that day for the 'intro pic' or whatever you call it:

I'm not positive, but I just tested this out on a few videos.
The magic number here is 2.23

Let's see if I can explain this to you: (sorry I'm no mathematician)

Your video is 5:55 which equals 355 seconds.
The still image is right at 2:39 which equals 159 seconds

355/159=2.232

Here are my test subjects:


3:55 equals 235 seconds
Still image is at 1:45 which equals 105 seconds
235/105=2.238


3:25 equals 205 seconds
Still image is at 1:32 which equals 92 seconds
205/93=2.228

So basically, you've gotta time it just right.

I don't know about how one one niner explained it, but an easy way I know is to watch your video (not off your channel) and click on edit info at top of page and then click on video thumbnail and it will give you 3 automated still images to choose. click which one you like the most and then, (importantly) click on SAVE CHANGES

Neralich nailed it, gives you three options, if you don't like what they chose, you can change it to one of the other two options. They usually do a pretty good job, done a lot of videos and have only changed it a couple of times. They must have somebody on the board working over at Utube (LOL}, usually know when they see something good!!!
