Did a Little Swapping Around This Afternoon . . . .

My friend Chris came over today. He posted some time ago that he had a personally dug Caddo bowl found just about an hour from where I live that he wanted to sell or swap. He also had a very nice, but broken artifact that he found at a site I showed him last fall. So he came over and we started talking, and one thing led to another - he left with a nice Burlington Dalton and a new frame to put some of his points in, and I got - well, take a look!

One of the very few large Hunt County, TX Clovis points I've ever seen, found about five miles outside Lone Oak, TX, at a site known far and wide for producing tons of rather ugly Gary points and some really nice birdies and pottery shards - but not really known for Paleo! In fact, this is the first Paleo piece I have ever seen found there! WHAT A SMOKER!!!

Then there was the original object of the trade:

Killer little looped side Caddo cooking bowl! Anybody know a name to go with this pottery type?

Notice that I am NOT posting this in the "Buy, Sell, or Trade" section! Both these pieces are going in my permanent collection and staying there!!

Love that bowl Indy, man is that sweet.

My guess for the Clovis would be impact fracture. The one side darn near resembles a Folsom!

Wow! The Clovis base,,,Mmm,YUM!! Looks impact to me. Are you thinking an isolated find?

Killer pottery bowl!

I'd have to keep them in the personal collection as well.

Congrats on the artifacts with a new good home. Nice trade

Glad you enjoyed Indy, and thanks for the trade. I don't think there is anybody that will appreciate that Clovis base more then you. I'm going to start putting that frame together tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I have enough local stuff I have found to fill it up. That way I can get them out of the zip lock bags before something bad happens. Thanks again.

Chris

Does the broken edge of the paleo feel ground? I have some bases like that that were used as scrapers/knives.

No, it actually is still very sharp along the break - but the base and sides are HEAVILY ground!

As the injun's themselves may have said, good trade. Those are enviable artifacts, and in good hands.

Lol I was thinkin the same thing questor, good trade, like in dances w wolves

For real nice base there and the pot.... That is awesome! Is it shell tempered, plain pot? I had actually saw one at school from a site I help volunteer at but cant remember a specific name.
