The eyes protrude quite a bit, being found in a load of gravel, perhaps they were abraded due to their prominence.

Looks fake to me, the fresh gouges around the nose and the eyes are a dead giveaway.

I figured those parts aren't as worn because they're deeper and you can't make contact with them. I've seen other artifacts/carvings where the deeper ridges are lighter or not as shiny as the rest of the object. Every part I can touch with my hand is pretty smooth.
I'll have to take this somewhere to let an expert look at it in detail. Pictures can be deceiving and I don't know what I'm looking at. Just gotta figure out where. |

How could you say it's "fake" when no one knows for sure what it is?

I would personally hesitate to use the word "fake" as I think it does not apply. First it implies fraud..and there is no motivation for that here( aside from the common courtesy we should extend to anyone who has no obvious motive other than to participate here). Second, If it is not Native it may be "historic" in nature..far different from "Fake" and still an interesting and valid artifact to share here.
Just my rant guys...And, I want to stress that we have a great forum that has managed to remain very friendly and welcoming to new folks where so many others have failed by allowing pretense and haughty attitudes to creep in amongst the ranks. I love this place because it has allowed me to bring in questions and share finds that might be silly or dumb and still no one has made me feel like an idiot. Likewise when someone with an obvious BS agenda steps into the ranks it gets called what it is..I understand it's a tedious line but keep it in mind. Lets keep it real

Many people have stated our Texas points have "fresh hinges"! They came out 4 ft deep though, so I wouldn't worry about it too much! It's a neat piece either way! I like it! Doesn't matter what it is, if it came out of my driveway, I would be pumped up too!

he says it came with a pile of river gravel, could be from any time zone and the material has not yet been identified, so as it has been presented as an unknown for now,it was presented correctly in my eyes of judgement.

I always look when there is time , i have found some real questionable pieces there . Dont know how old , who did whatever to them , but they are real and go into my collection or rock garden ! Nice Snake head I'll lay it beside my dinosaur if you would want to be rid of it !! Greg Blood |

Thanks, Trask. I posted this at a few places trying to find out info (this is the only artifact site). Nothing wrong with being skeptical when it comes to something like this I suppose. If I wanted to fake it I'd stick it on eBay, not ask questions here. lol
My old college has an archaeology course. Maybe someone there could let me know more about it. |
