I found a stone snake head in a MD driveway

I assume it's a snake. My parents got a load of stones and I noticed a darker colored one. It's about 2" long by 1" wide and sticks to magnets. I don't know a thing about it and thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any input.

Yep, an effigy of some kind, snake or turtle maybe...no idea if it's an ancient artifact though could be.

To be honest when I read the title to this thread I was expecting to see another geofact. But that definitely looks like a very cool and unusual artifact. I'm thinking it might be a meteorite that was carved into an effigy. I'm just guessing though, it will be interesting to see what others think.

Definitely an artifact, and a very cool one at that! Like the others, I was expecting another natural pebble that vaguely resembled some animal or other - we get a LOT of those posted here! Congrats on a very unusual find!

If it's metal and Native American than it would stand to reason that it would have to be hammered into shape. Then the question where did the material originate? When an artifact like this surfaces it's hard to get a good answer like you looking for because no ones seen one before! I dont see what state your posting from. Location might offer up some clues. It looks like (and I'm not suggesting it is or even related to) objects I've seen pulled from the Cenote of Sacrafice in Chichen Itza Mexico!

Thumbs up

WOW and WOW!!!!

I pretty much read the tittle and rolled my eyes thinking, as the others,
"here we go again with a odd shaped chunk of gravel"..I never expected to see something so clearly amazing.

You have to take it somewhere ( anthro/archeo/geology dept of a local University?)..find out what the material is..Make sure it isn't a chess pc or something off the wall like a part to a 90 yr old toy..Possibly it bears some stylistic/cultural markers that someone will know?

Thanks for sharing this....Loads of us will be following this so keep us posted please

It was found on the eastern shore of Maryland. But if it actually came in with the stones, I'd have to find out where the stones came from. It's fairly heavy for its size (I haven't weighed it yet) and looks more like stone than metal, yet it attracts magnets like metal.

Maybe it's some type of ore?
