Triangle

What kind of point is this?I have found quite a few triangular points here in Ohio but none with this type concave base .Only about an inch long. Base is real thin with flake running across face on one side. Just curious ,any ideas ? Thanks

You very well may be right, I should have said IF I found it here in Ct it would be Madison or Levanna... My bad...... Triangle typology is muddy at best with so many different types with overlapping ranges.

Disclaimer: I hunt ONE site over and over and over for the last three years. About 200 yards squared. Everything from late Archaic on up.

Personal finds with similar base from Northeastern PA:

They are both are rather girthy/fat in the midsection. The majority of triangles I have found are your typical thin tiny triangles with a flat base. I had posted a third triangle variant here: Odd triangle. but it seems to the majority "a triangle is a triangle is a Madison". It was even Debitage?!?!?

Maybe the ancient knapper that made mine sucked at reduction and liked to round the basal corners...

End of story.

Good luck, post bookmarked, and PM me if you get a lead !

EDIT:
PS. Ya' like that cobble cortex that remains on the left point. That is called "lithic po' dunk ,we go no quarry, gotta do with chert glacial cobble remains". Say it three times fast!

Chris you are right about typology of triangles. Perino states that Madisons have a range of Illinois, Wisconson, and Missouri and are from Mississippian sites. Madison seems to be a catchall type like Adena, IMO. I am sure the range is larger than the areas he describes but I personally don't think it extends that far. Nice triangle Longhunter.
