My best find ever----so far anyway.

I found this whole drill yesterday on the banks of the Kaskaskia river. The river has flooded recently and is now receding. My husband wanted to stop at the barge and have a drink, I decided to have a look around since Fort Chartres is just down river, glad I did this drill was just laying there in the mud. Trying to talk my husband into going and having another drink today.

That is very impressive ! A drill of that quality and length must be an extremely rare occurance . I have not seen anything to match it . Don

Very nice!! The base looks like it might have been an Osceola point at one time.

You know I'm thinking those things must have had another function . ( rather than drills or punches . ) I've got a few ( much shorter in length ) that could not have been drilled anything without breaking off . Maybe they were ornamental items like hair pieces , or lips or nose studs or ????Anybody have thoughts or info on this ?

Exausted knife form Don,,,guess it could have been used as a toothpick,q-tip,back scratcher, bugger picker, pimple popper, who knows,,but to be of any use as a drill,,,It would snap off even in a soft wood like balsa. so you moved from Point Blank I see. lol,

I agree Panola, maybe for the hair with a leather strap? Women like nice thing no matter what eras they are born in. Hubby agreed to a afternoon drink, wohoo, although he said if I find something else he is switching from beer to tea.LOL
