more petrified wood points.
All of these points came out of the same hole as the others 1s I posted. And guess what... The nice translucent bird point, is the very 1st arrowhead I ever found. It is made from extremely high grade petrified wood. I didn't even know it was wood for like 5 years until I showed it to somebody and we looked at it under a microscope. I love my petrified wood points. Its my favorite material to find.
![]() And a cool picture of the 1st arrowhead I ever found that gave me this horribly, overly obsessive disease. ![]() Then 1 of the only Hardin points I have ever seen from this area. The base and stem are heavily ground. This came out if the layer just right above where I have dug several Daltons out of. I could be wrong on the type, but it sure enough looks like a Hardin to me. Let me know if I'm wrong. And also in the picture is a heart breaker little bird point. All from the same hole.

The petrified wood always seems to add an extra dimension to an artifact. Especially the high-grade agatized varieties, which are in a class all of their own. Nice to see everyone's great discoveries within this thread.
I've been fortunate to have discovered a few pet wood artifacts myself over the years in my own local hunting areas, as seen below.

This Eastgate was Collected from a Western State. My only Pet Wood point made of an agatized grade of pet wood. One of my own personal faves.

Really Beautiful !!!!!
Questor. That is a extra fine point. It is amazing in color and shape. It looks so much like what we find here along the Columbia. Beautiful and thanks for the look. In my opinion it may be something from the Mid Cloumbia river area. We have a lot of that type of pt.wood there.

One of my best finds ever is the (Delhi?) black expanding stem with white cortex...
There are a few here that I still haven't identified, like the atypical one on the upper right: Concave base, tapered stem, barbed shoulders, slightly serrated at about 2" long. And not positive if the large one on the right is pet wood, but it sure has a wood swirl look. Last edited by dave2757; 02-08-2012 at 10:07 PM. |

I figure this piece is agatized wood from the PNW but have never been 100% on it. What do you think PNW guys?
BTW, I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the fine lithic materials in this thread.
