Fakes wanted
I'm looking to buy a few fakes to put in a frame. Not modern knaps that are made to look modern, known fakes that were tried to be passed off or sold as the real thing.
I don't care if they have "FAKE" written across the front of them, when I get them I'm going to use my Dremel tool to engrave "fake" across side "B" of them anyway. I'm teaching some classes for middle-schoolers, and I'd like to have a few representatives to show the kids what to look out for. I already have some of the modern looking pieces in a frame to show them as well. If you have any for sale, please pm me, thanks. |

I bought bag of those Agate/Jasper dovetail/corner notch points that are made in India and are every where on eBay. My sons class made arrows with them, my daughters class wrapped them in wire and made necklaces, I pressure flaked a couple, etc.
It's not what you are looking for, but if you don't already have some PM your address and I'd be happy to send a couple no charge in an envelope. |

I got these jokers at the Temple, TX Artifact Show as part of a large trade in an old Texas Estate Collection that was 98% authentic. They were mixed up in various cases and cleverly disguised with a fake caliche cake that appeared to be baked on.....came right off with soap and water! Real Caliche deposits, as we all probably know, take vinegar and elbow grease if you even want to remove any at all. I have seen a few so covered no flint was visible, but normally I dont try to remove it. This was back in the 90's and I cant remember names , however, I havn't lost these examples with which I have used as teaching tools for boy scouts camps.
They used to have more real appeal......now they have had all the fake stain & patina scrubbed and rubbed off by students etc. After a brief study of any of them it is evident that most of the flaking patterns and notching or shouldering isnt even close......anyway, they are good examples, but they are not the best fakes in the world. I will shoot you a PM. Im happy to hear that you are showing the young'uns the difference and how bad the fakes can hurt people. Thanks!!

Scott if I had any fakes I would give them to you but luckily I don't have that problem since everything I have is what I personally found.
I can see you are doing all you can to teach these kids a thing or two about Indians and their tools needed just to survive. Great job buddy.

Good man Scotto, you should branch out and school some adults with an advanced tutorial on the real deal vs. fakes, lol. I've got a handful of those commonly sold one flake wonders that you can have. Pm me your addy and I'll send them your way if you want them.
