In Search Of Large Endscrapers, Duckbill Scrapers, Etc.
I'm looking to put a frame of large early endscrapers / duckbill scrapers together. They are probably my favorite tool type. Usually between 1 3/4 " to over 3" in length. They often are made into multipurpose tools with knife edges, spokeshaves, etc. but have a primary scraping purpose in most cases. I've personally found these duckbill types in association with Dalton and contemporary cultures as well as early archaic types like Kirk and Pinetree. These similar forms are from paleo horizons as well.
If anyone is interested in selling or trading any of these types let me know. I'm mostly interested in examples from east of the Mississippi river. I added some pics of some from my collection for reference.

Ryan,
I have a a bunch of tools(500+) and will look at them and send pics of what I think may qualify. It may take a few days but I will get on it in the morn. Mark |

I doubt these are what you are looking for but posted anyway. How much do the scrapers sell for. If it is just a couple dollars I would not want to sell them.

Thanks for posting some of those pieces. Most of those look like blades and preforms. Is that all Ky. material? I've seen these types of duckbill scrapers sell from $5 to $50 depending on quality, material, age, etc. Just my opinion.

I don't know where the material is from but the bifaces and preforms are from Pa. I doubt any of the other stuff is duckbill either. It's odd that out of all the tools I have no Duckbills. Are they found in Pa?

Pennsylvania Endscraper
I found this November(ish) of 2009 in my first year of hunting. Uniface identified it as a unifacial endscraper and said "the proximal end (the handle end) is broken -- probably from some kind of wrenching/prying action."
![]() ![]() ![]() As far as the age, it was found in an area that has produced mainly Archaic to Terminal Archaic pieces. Not for sale, but figured I would share since we don't have many PA members here !Took these pics today as they may show details a little better: ![]() ![]() Here is a good Link: Click on the scraper type for pics... http://www.alaskanartifacts.com/Thum...finitions.html Last edited by Mud Hawk; 12-15-2011 at 12:08 PM. |
