Last Mailbox Haul of 2011 - And It's a GOOD UN!!!!!!!

This collection sat on EBay for two weeks before I finally decided to bid on it, and I was the only bidder. Why I will never know! All these artifacts were found by the same family on a 200 acre farm in DeKalb County, Illinois. Many of them had never even been cleaned - looks like a classic "Cigar Box" collection! Several of them are just awesome - the big Thebes and the large sidenotched blade are just downright sweet, and the big Dalton has a plow nick in the blade but is still classic! Here are some shots:

Most of the whole points in this picture.

Big blades and two killer sidenotched pieces. The slightly smaller one is especially nice!

Nice trio of Thebeses here. The one with the broken blade is paper thin and awesome; a worthy candidate for restoration.

Nice lanceolate, ground 2/3 of the way up, and two Daltons in this pic.

Some of the nice smaller pieces.

Drills and Godars, Oh my!!!

Some of the smaller and nicked up pieces not in the first photo.

I'll be listing some of these Sunday; but if any of you are interested in any of them, PM me for prices. Remember, nothing says "Happy New Year" like adding a killer piece of flint to your collection!
(Hallmark should put that on a Greeting Card!!!)

Talked to him as well. Nice collection. The seller wanted them to go to a buyer that would keep the collection together, his deceased brother found them. I'm familiar with Dekalb my family is from there.

Looks like a nice collection of artifacts to me. as far as someone wanting the buyer to keep the collection whole? why didn't he keep it himself in memory of his brother? If money was that tight then its time to beg borrow or steal to save family memorabilia.

Nice grouping Indy, I'm sure you'll do well with that group.

He put it up on EBay with no conditions. I kinda hate to break it up, but I only keep personal finds or the occasional local find I get from a friend. I was amazed it went for so little, actually!

Mark - which one are you calling a HiLo? the little brown one to the right of the lanceolate? Or the big Dalton-like piece? I've got $100 on the bigger one, and $20 on the smaller one (it has a tip nick).

Kudos to you for snatching it up. I agree if he truly wanted to keep it together he would have kept it. You got a great deal and the pieces will go to good collectors.
