Nebraska Artifact Show - August 27th, 2011
The Nebraska Archaeological Society is hosting its 7th annual Native American Artifact Show on Saturday, August 27th, in Seward, Nebraska. The show will be held at the Seward County Fairgrounds, in the Ag Pavilion building, from 9am to 5pm. Exhibitor set-up is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the day of the show. Show information link: 2011 - Nebraska Archaeological Society
The public is invited to take advantage of this opportunity and view some of the finest private Great Plains artifact collections in North America. Besides the Nebraska collections we usually have outstanding collections from at least seven states. Because this is a non-commercial show there will be a number of professional institutions involved as well, and they provide the general public with interesting and educational information. The Nebraska Show guest speaker this year is Dr. Jack L. Hofman of the University of Kansas. His presentation is titled: The Allen Complex of the Central Plains. Allen points are a favorite with many collectors due to the beautiful oblique flaking exhibited on this well-made point type. Very little published information can be found on the Allen complex so show attendees may find this presentation to be quite interesting. Also, Dr. Hofman has spent countless hours studying Folsom complex artifact collections from throughout the Plains. If you have a question concerning artifacts in your collection that are Folsom or you think may be Folsom Dr. Hofman will be glad to provide an answer or an opinion. Mr. George Corner, Vertebrate Paleontology Collection Manager for the University of Nebraska State Museum will be at the show to help identify vertebrate fossils that are brought in by exhibitors or the public. Mr. Greg Brown, Chief Preparator of Vertebrate Paleontology for the University of Nebraska State Museum, will demonstrate state-of-the-art materials and methods in preserving fossils and artifacts, as well as the process used to make accurate museum replicas for research and exhibition. There will also be knapping demonstrations and also atlatl demonstrations. There are 140 display-only tables available in this large facility which has excellent lighting.. There are no table fees, all display tables are FREE. That’s right, no tables fees to display your collections so others may enjoy viewing them. The Nebraska Archaeological Society has designed this free event for those who enjoy collecting artifacts, learning about artifacts or simply enjoying the camaraderie generated by all of the fine collections exhibited at this show. For more information call Dick Eckles 402 225 2525 or Plainslithics@windstream.net or Kevin Hammond 402 423 5700. |
