taking a picture question
What is your guys/gals secret to taking close up pictures of your points? It seems every time I try to do it they are out of focus, and if I use the flash the glare off of the stone makes it so you cant see the flaking on the point. The camera I have is a Canon Power shot S3 IS, any pointers on taking pictures of points would be much appreciated.

This is a frequently recurring topic. Here are just three threads on the subject.
IMO, there is no secret. Get a camera with decent optics (NOT expensive) and practice Macro-ing in sunlight. It really isn't hard. Then use some basic features of pretty much any photo editing package (I-photo, photoshop, etc) for cropping, sharpening, contrast adjust etc. The biggest mistake is thinking a modern point-and-click with more pixels is going to take better pics. But there are many ideas here: Best Methods for Photographing Relics Inexpensive camera, nice macro! First photo attempt This picture is a collage of individual pics. The total file size is 64 kilobytes (600x466 pixels.)!! Last edited by Mojave; 05-08-2011 at 10:00 AM. |

Jim Bennett gave me the best advice, get a nice sky blue or a bit darker cloth and then buy a piece of non glare glass set the point on the glass about 6 inches above the cloth and you will get the best definitions pictures you can imagine.
