New hunting partner...

Our Border Collie relic hunting, kayaking, and hiking companion of nearly 15 years died several weeks back. My wife and I had decided to wait until this fall to get a puppy to give us a little time and avoid the summer heat.....but things changed Saturday. A friend called and told us about a 7 month old BC pup that was available free to a good home. It's the typical BC story where folks refuse to believe how smart and, frankly, different these dogs are and how important (essential) it is that they have a job. And although this dog came from a long line of champion sheep herders I'm sure she will quickly adapt to her new "employment." Yeah, I know how this sounds to some folks but you either get or you don't when it comes to dogs

Couple of pics of her on day 1 at the homestead:

She looks like a sweety moots and I am very sorry to hear about your loss. My dog is like a son to me and dread the day of his loss. I took a ten minute video of him eating his first corn on the cob. What a riot!!!

Sorry for your loss moots. Like Mud Hawk, my BC/Australian shepherd mix is getting older and I am not looking forward to her passing.

On a positive note: it looks like you have a really good new hunting buddy. She's a beauty.

Great looking dog Bud. My two dogs are family as far as I'm concerned. I can't go anywhere without both my girls following close behind.

Hey Moots that's a good looking BC. I have a red and white female we got when she was 10 weeks old and now she is 8 years old.
I know its not the right thing to do but she has been a house dog since we brought her home. She eats with me, sleeps between me and my wife and no matter where I am in the house or outside she is next to me. She is a daddy dog for sure. She will protect momma but even momma don't mess with daddy.
My dog has ate more rib eye's than most folks ever will (she always gets her own).
You are right about them felling the need to have a job and hers is to put toys in my lap even at the age of 8 and to guard my arrowhead room at all cost. I remind her every morning when I leave to go to work.

My wife watched a documentary on dogs (I still gotta watch it) and it claimed they played a big part in our evolution as well as we did for theirs. A very unique bond between species... Doubt anyone would argue if you saw one of the many photos of Native dog burials.

Bobby, ours sleeps between us as well. Quite the bed hog for such a little dog (Italian Greyhound, fawn in color with an underbite.) Barks twice a year and is innocence and love incarnate... he IS a leg lifter though... that is when we call him a turd .

I have to share a picture of my boy. Will add/edit this post in a few minutes....

My dalmation passed several years ago, and I still haven't been able to get a new dog. That was the best/smartest dog I ever had.
