Please forgive me is this has been brought up in the past... If so, please just copy and paste the URL and close this thread.
At the present time we have a "Typology" forum to discuss known point types. I understand flint is much harder to categorize because it's colors (white to green, to pink to black!), grades (shiny to grainy!) and local naming conventions, but why don't we add a section for it? You know, start a topic with "_____ flint" and we post examples of the flint color ranges (heat treated vs not heat treated), local names for it, various grades of that particular flint, etc? I ask this because this is always one of my biggest questions when studying artifacts. It's "moderately" easy to ID a point type, but I think it would be valuable to have a flint type or "material" section... Thoughts? Shane
