just venting here

I'm getting sick of putting up hay, I'm usually done by now but since all of the rain we have had here in Nebraska I'm just getting started. So Ive been putting in 16 to 18 hour days cutting hay, balling hay and moving cattle to fresh pastures on top of that. Its really putting a crimp into my arrowhead hunting that is it, and happy hunting all and keep those photos of all those nice finds you'll are getting. Hopefully I can get back out there and walk around looking at the ground like a crazy man here in a few weeks and have some photos to share. Special thanks to Indiansmith the points I bought from you somewhat calm the itch, but still isn't the same as finding one. That is it for real this time.

I feel your pain brother. We are in the thro's of hay season as well. It seems the rain hits everytime we cut a new piece. I don't think we put in any hay that hasn't been rained on. Then there is equipment trouble Sheesh! We just put a new rim on one of the big wheels on or John Deere 530, the PTO went to crap on our 730D the 630 is in the shed with a blown head gasket. I think it's time to put these old tractors out to pasture. lol We are now getting close to the end, and will just make our needed 10,000 small bales.

Count your blessings sandhills. Down here in Texas a lot of ranchers have been having to take thier cattle to the slaughter house because of lack of rain and no grass to eat.

My thoughts as well TxHunter.

There are farmers/ranchers in Texas and Oklahoma at this very moment that would dearly love to have your problem.

I know ...you would just like to get out to do some hunting.

We've had only 1.25" of rain in 6 weeks. Crops that aren't irrigated are withering. Wish we could balance out some of this flash flood vs drought weather around the nation.

You are exactly right NTH. One thing I've noticed most recently, aside from the failing crops and dying tress, is that when I venture to town (I live very remotely) I don't see anywhere near the amount of cattle as I'm used to seeing.

Sandhills, just consider the higher prices you'll get from all that excess hay selling it your neighbors to the south.

We've had 20% of that total in the same time frame.

But hopefully that will change within the next few days

I feel bad for the people going through the drought down south. We actually had to experience that about 10 years ago, we had to sell all of our cattle because we didnt have any grass left because of no rain. We are just now getting our cattle numbers back to where they were. So my prayers go out to any of you dealing with the drought down south.

I have a question for you sandhills. Farmland in Nebraska and Iowa has taken dramatic jumps in prices the past couple of years.

I was wondering what the value of land in the sandhills is doing. Especially land that has very good hay meadows on it.
