It's Official
I am a total train wreck, that's what my doctor said today. Just wanting to get some sympathy maybe I don't know. Yeah Yeah I know sympathy is in the dictionary between s@#t and syphilis. ha ha very funny
She said I have high blood pressure, I am now taking a double dose. She said I have high cholesterol but we needed to wait on that because we have worse issues. She put me on Prozac, said I was depressed. Whatever, she asked me if I ever felt like killing myself. No way man I have never thought of killing myself, maybe others but not myself. Now for then fun part, I found out that I am diabetic. She said I am going to have to change my lifestyle completely. I guess I am officially an old fart because I have to take a handful of meds every day now. I just want to know if there are others out there that are diabetic that can tell me what kind of foods to eat and what kind of road is ahead of me? I am usually the kind to eat anything good or bad for you but I do lean toward fast food a lot. That's gotta stop now. Just a little more than worried. Alright I am pretty scared right now. HELP!!!!! |

Thanks Mark and believe me I am taking it serious even though I joke around some. My wife is a nurse and she will help me through it.Just really hate to change my eating that's all. I mean I don't mind eating a salad every now and then as long as I have a 20 oz. rib eye on the side with some chocolate cake for later. I just don't want salad with a side of salad and salad for dessert.

Do take it seriously Bobby but don't stress out over it......control what you can and accept what you can't.....I know, I know....easy to say.
Did the doc put you on insulin or an oral agent for the sugar?.....oral agent leaves you more room to control your diet and your sugar.....another thing that can help immensly is weight loss if your on the thick side.....it's not the end of the world...or your life as you know it....there will be some adjustment on your behalf but it's very doable....hang tight......if ya really need to kill someone chose wisely! ![]() Just kidding on the last comment bro......hang in there. |

Bobby, I know exactly how you are feeling. I went through the same thing about 3 years ago when the Doctor disagnosed me as being Diabetic and with High Blood Pressure. I didn't have the High Cholesteral or Depression issues though. Just what I've read from your posts on here I don't see the Depression, but then again I'm not your doctor. I too was cared sh#*less at first, but it really hasn't been all that bad. I now take Metformin 500 mg tablets every day to control my Diabetes and I also changed my eating habits drastically. I don't eat out at McDonalds, Wendys, Taco Bell, Burger King, etc near as much as I did. Eating these once in a while, like maybe a couple times a month, is now like a big bonus to me. My wife also started cooking a lot healthier meals at home too. Lots of veggies, chicken, fish, fruits etc instead of all the pasta, steaks, burgers and fries, etc we ate before. We still have those on ocassion, but not very often. I also went from 261 pounds down to a lot better and healthier 225. I feel a lot better too.
I also take Quiniprill for my High Blood pressure and it has lowered dramatically. Of course, a lot of that has to do with my lifestyle changes, dropping the 35+ pounds, and lots of walking. I am 52 years old and feel really good about myself now. It can be scary at first but with the right changes in your diet, lots more excercise, and listening to your doctor and taking your meds regularly you can control it and live a very good life. You just have to want it for yourself and not take it lightly. I'm not trying to scare you, but I had a cousin who wouldn't listen to his doctor, wouldn't take his meds, and didn't change his diet and he lost parts of his feet and went almost totally blind because of it. Diabetes runs in my family and I had all the symptoms but kept putting it off and now I'm glad I finally got the courage to go to the doctor and get it taken care of. Do you have night sweats, peeing all the time, and constant thirst? I had all those and ignored them for years and now I have it all under control for the most part. If you ever need to talk some about this don't hesitate to PM me and we can discuss some things. Hope you get things under control buddy!!

When I was 42 I felt pretty much the same as I did when I was 22. In the 6 years since then everything has pretty much gone downhill it seems though. 7 weeks ago I was hospitalized with diverticulitis. I’m doing everything I can to change my life so it doesn’t kill me. There really wasn’t that much badness to change though. Brock Lesner had all the nutritionalists and fitness experts money could buy and couldn’t solve it. It is a day-to-day battle. Unfortunately I inherited some less than desirable genes.
Getting old sucks but it beats the alternative. At least you are paying attention to it and doing something about it. |

Sorry to hear that Bobby and Mojave. I've been through the changes of diet that a diabetic has to make and it's nothing to worry about. Splenda was the hardest thing to get used to but we're used to it now.
Mojave sorry your hurting man, was wondering where you got off to a while back. |

Hey Bobby, is it type 1 or 2 diabetes?
I was diagnosed with diabetes some years ago, and I'm stubborn and it was mostly a head game for me at first. I wanted to eat or drink whatever the hell I wanted to, and I was frustrated that my own body was giving me grief. But once I figured it out, it wasn't so bad, now my blood sugar is right where it should be, and just with meds and eating right. There are millions of people who are diabetic and don't even know it yet. All of this junk food these days, high fructose corn syrup in every damn thing, and the fact that we have such a sedentiary lifestyle now, it makes us our own worse enemies to our own bodies. I'm not much of a donut, cake, cookie or candy eater, I like my steak, lunchmeat, sausage, cheese, fish, fruits and vegetables most anyway, and those are fine to have. Like I said it was mostly a head game for me anyway, since I'm naturally rebellious. Most people if they exercise more and eat right, bring it under control quickly. PM me too if you want to talk about it man. I had high blood pressure too, the doc put me on Quinipril and a couple others too, now I'm fine there. And I dropped weight, went from 255 down to 210 which helped, quit drinking too. I was pretty depressed for a while, the docs put me on Prozac but it made it so I couldn't concentrate on a damn thing and I quit it. Now I don't take anything for depresssion, I hate taking any kind of pill for anything, never even took vitamins. God put the good stuff in healthy foods, we don't need 'em if we eat right. Plus my wife is the best cook on the planet, she makes healthy meals that I love so no problem there. Actually Steve and I have a lot in common, lol. Last edited by Scotto; 08-09-2011 at 04:23 PM. |

Get Well
My Doctor wants me to run Thinks obesity is a concern lol![]() Diabetes 2 is tricky just take care of yourself and should be alright for most part. Trying to get an idea how much insulin for how much food and all is most important. Some people have a pump instead of self injections. Diabetes 1 I think controlled by pill.
