Some pictures from upcoming book
I've been working on my book about Wisconsin Artifacts for little over a year now and thought I would share a couple of pictures that will be in it with my friends here-

And a few more... This book is going to be bursting at the seams with pictures, can't wait to show them all off in the finished project... although that may be as much as a year away yet.

Nice pictures Paul. Are those all personal finds of yours? I really like the Copper Keel Gorget. That is sweet.

Oh heavens no, I wish they were all personal finds! The pictures in the book are coming from collections from every corner of the state. I put a bunch of my own personal finds in there as well, but in general, mine represent a small %. The copper gorget was a farm field find by a friend of mine a few years back in Ozaukee County Wis. It's a super sweet piece, about 2.5 " by 3" or so....

Trask- been working on it for little over a year now, me and another fellow. We were really lucky because my partner for this book managed to get access to not only a couple of the biggest collections in the state but also to the state historical societie's collection which is impressive. He's doing most of the stone tool chapter complete with a couple hundred line drawings and I am done with the ceramic section, and almost done with the copper section. It's going to be pretty picture heavy and have a lot of good info on copper culture artifacts so I hope that draws interest from collectors outside of Wisconsin as well. Labor of love, that's for sure.

What it costs depends on what you want to do with it, how many color pictures, quality of paper, size of book, soft cover or hard cover, and the list goes on and on and on... we figure that when this book is finished it will cost us around 1500-2000 but there will be a lot of pictures and line drawings, it's really aimed at being an identification guide more than anything. There's nothing published out there for copper really so this has been a monumental undertaking. We have a long ways to go as well. There will be around 400 line drawings of just different point types found in the state (more than one example for each kind) plus there is a whole chapter on lithic types in the state with some awesome material pictures. Actually that one pic above of the gray/white colored points is just a picture showing artifacts made from Type I Prairie Du Chien chert for example, then there will also be ultra close ups of the material, etc. There's a pretty good section with great pictures on the pottery found in the state and don't even get me started on the copper chapter! LOL Here's another picture, shows what the close ups look like for the lithic material section, this is an example of hixton that shows some of the most common color variants all in one piece. Oh, and the book will be available at barnes and noble, amazon, all the big book chains.
