All American Predator!
I have been watching the creek out of my bathroom the last couple of days (the only "Indoor" approved smoking area) and watched a few steelhead splashing around in the shallower waters making their way back to Lake Erie after spawning.
About 20 mins ago, I watched a Bald Eagle swoop in and perch right above the area I have been observing the steelhead. I am sure it was on the hunt for steelhead! Could'nt get a pic before it bolted. Awesome sight for sure!

Yep joking aside, there is something inspiring/solemn about seeing a bald eagle, I vividly remember the first time I saw one in the wild.

Nice.
We only get Bald Eagles here on occasion, but Golden Eagles are very common. Saw one once dive bombing a plastic duck decoy that I'd neglected to take out of our pond...he was severely p---ed that he couldn't manage to grab onto it....

about 10 years ago I finally started seeing Bald eagles in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. the First time was while Flyfishing for Steelhead in the Yuba River... then on the Kern Plateau above the South Fork of the Kern river..(one of my "Gold & Black trips" I've mentioned here before).
Haven't seen them in the Local Mountains..Yet.. I am fairly certain they live in the San Gabriel & San Bernadino Mtns.. NE & North of my Humble abode... They are really great to see soaring on the Thermals .. Like my Favorite local Birds, the Turkey Vultures...

I was hunting a large field about 15 years ago that is right along the Ohio River. There was rumor of a pair of nesting Bald Eagles down that way but I had never seen them in all my trips to this spot. Then one day it was a clear blue sky overhead and I just happened to look up and I saw a huge bird flying above me. As it got closer I could see the white head and knew it was one of the Eagles. I watched it for a few minutes and then went back to hunting.
I caught something out of the corner of my eye towards the river and just as I look I see this Eagle swooping down towards the river. It gets just above the water and extends it claws out, grabs a fish, and then flies back up toward the hills above the river. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Must have been a sight to see Steve! I find birds of prey very interesting (got my username here from the hawks that I see and hear on 70% of my hunts). I always stop and watch when they are flying and screeching around me and watch. Sure they recognize me too since I am on THEIR hunting grounds.
