An old gift approach...

My wife and I decided to hand make each other our gifts this year as we are both sick of the buy buy buy gift mentality. Kinda going the "Ol' Fashioned" way this year .

At any rate, she always says she is more of a "Wolf" kind of person and I say I am more of a "Hawk" kind of person so I took my hand at carving (well a dremel, sandpaper, and a pocket knife):

Pendant made from a deer antler base... should of had the ear pinned back but oh well.

I still need to carve a bead (from a piece of antler tine) to hold the leather cord closed above the pendant.

Will post a finished pic if time allows...

Happy Holidays to all!!!

Done.

Thanks for the input guys!

I just finished it about 20 minutes ago... The smaller bead on top was made this morn from the tip of the same antler shed as the pendant (spun and shaped on a drill bit). Weird but it is grayer in color?

Both pieces got a dip in VERY hot paraffin wax to seal them and then they were cloth polished. The leather is pressure fitted inside the bead so both sides look the same... No messy knots. Drenched the leather in hot water to let it expand and air drying it over night.

Cut, Print... time to wrap !

PS: The two tiny little holes near the bottom of the pendant are natural... Are there any kind of roots inside antlers? If so, OUCH must hurt if the antler comes off in a fight!!!

That is really nice and a great idea about the gifts. Might have to try that next year with my ole lady. But the 2 holes in the bottom were part of tye blood supply network for when the antler. 1 pushes blood up into the velvet, and the other sends it back down. All antlers will have those holes to some extent.

I like that a lot. Far more special than just buying her some necklace.
