Sugar Gliders!!!!
This was my surprise gift for my daughters this Christmas - a pair of male Australian Sugar Gliders named Chip and Dale. I think the consensus is that they are the cutest little pets in the world!

Those are cool. I've always wanted 1 that I could carry around in my shirt pocket.

As far as possums go, they are cute little things.

Adorable but southern flying squirrels make better pets and are easier to care for. For more information than she can ever use plus great people that love squirrels in all forms.... google squirrelboard.com massive world wide site. Plus she can interact with nice people that have many many years of experience. Lots of glider folks there too!

We had two females for a Looooooong time. Sunshine and Moonshine, or Sunny and Mooney. It's a good thing that you got her two, because they need a lot of attention and will get depressed by themselves. Some things about sugargliders: Very high maintenance, and will teach your daughter responsibilities. They need fresh fruit every day(not necessarily a bad thing because you will have fresh fruit in the fridge all the time), just a pain when you run out and you need to make special trips to the grocery to get fruit. Gala apples will become a staple food in your fridge. They are nocturnal, so you shouldn't have them remotely close to you wherever you sleep. They will fight often and make crabby noises at each other, and when startled while sleeping. They will bark all night long. If you get them a running wheel, might I suggest looking for some space aged running wheel with super quiet bearings(doubt such a thing exists). They will literally run in that thing ALL night long. When my cousin use to sleep over he would sleep on the couch(close to the cage) and would go knock over the wheel just to make(that particular) noise stop. They are very fast. When playing with them outside the cage, be ready to spring into action. Cage should be cleaned often to keep the ammonia smell down. Take it outside, spray it with a bleach/water solution and let it sit for a bit, then rinse. Keep anything within arms reach of them away because the will take anything they can get their hands on, and hoard it in their cage. Give them old pieces of t-shirts to sleep in. They like to make caves out of them, and it's something cheap that can be thrown away when you clean the cage. Other than that, they are cute lil' buggers and I hope they make a great addition to the family. |

Hey Indy! I have always loved sugar gliders! You gotta be careful though, they are a unique creature... They can actually die due to depression. Always need two.

We had an adventure early this AM - both of the little guys got out of their cage! We managed to find them after a 30 minute search, however. The door is clothespinned shut now.

Interesting. I have never considered a rodent for an inside pet. But I'll bet the kids probably think they are great!
