True, very true.

I bought our last vehicle after a good bonus check, and I had to find an older salesman because the young one didn't understand why I was negotiating a lower price if I was paying for cash. He just didn't appreciate the value of cash vs credit.

I don't do paypal. I don't like the monopoly, or questions they asked me when I tried long ago. I know two people that had trouble with them. My brother and a good friend. Both sold something, and the buyers paid through paypal. Paypal then froze their account for some reason, and both had to wait around 6-8 months to finally get their money. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft. pole.

This right here is correct I believe.

I used to buy and sell quite a bit on ebay, now rarely. They ruined a good thing when they got to thinking about how they could be greedy and squeeze even more money out of their lucrative set-up.

OTOH, I've had about 2,000 Paypal transactions and have never had a single problem though.

Exactly, PayPig is owned by ebay and they are basically forcing you to use it
with a “take it or leave it attitude”. Besides the auction fees they get a fee for
each transaction, in my view it’s just more ebay greed.

You can't be serious. You're buying my house and I have two payment options.
(a) A brief case full of cash that I have to (1) hope none of it is "funny" (2) hope somebody doesn't blow me away and take it (3) hide it under my bed or take to the bank and wait for them to determine it's all good (4) assuming it's 10K or more, there's federal reporting laws to contend with
or
(b) Get a wire transfer which is guaranteed money immediately available in my account and I have to handle or do nothing

Duh, let me think................

I refused to get a Paypal account at first, but then EBay said you HAD to have one in order to sell there . . . I boycotted EBay for about nine months, but then I caved and got it. Never had a problem with them, but anyone who contacts me via PM and asks to pay with a money order is allowed to do so. It takes a little longer to get the cash, but I don't have to let EBay have a slice out of it!

I don't agree with the idea of making people use paypal. I've bought and sold for about 10 years on fleabay and only one hiccup that was easily resolved by the buyer and myself with no ebay influence(shipping damage). Having said that, I used paypal throughout with no problems and have felt a sense of security using them. I think, as a seller, going by check and money order slowed things down, whereas paypal was much quicker, but the option should be left open to the seller to use whatever method of payment they are comfortable with. I recall a time when paypal was NOT the preferred method by sellers because they take a cut out of the seller, not the buyer. I have used CC through paypal and not a banking account, despite their repeated requests and threatening of 'secure member status'. That way I have two methods of resolving conflict. It may be their "policy" to have that extra information for new accounts(I really don't know) but I like the ability to buy, pay and expect immediate shipment. Waiting for crap in the mail is not one of my stronger suits.

Ebay has been an absolute miracle of the computer age, imo. On every level I am able to get fair market value for what I sell and give fair market value for what I buy. The little chip off the block they get(through paypal and seller fees) has been well worth it for me.
