Suburban Bass....
Went out on Tuesday to Westlake, which is a Community Lake surrounded by Million Dollar plus Houses. The Fishing can be Ragingly Great at times for the Bass in there... I am fortunate that a Former Boss of Mine lives on the lake and kindly allows Me to use his Mini Bass Boat on the Lake.
I went out with my Friend Lee B; who's a Local Flyfishing Guide and a Great Friend of Mine... We always have a Great time together fishing for whatever we decide to fish for... It started off a bit slow, but as the Day and the Water warmed Up, we found the Bass getting active, mostly males cleaning up Redds and getting ready to go out on a Hot Date.... My Successful fly was the Sanchez Sluggo Leech, Lee did good with a Worm fly he's been refining, plus a Rabbit Eel Worm.... all subsurface flies.. Later on next month we should start getting into Surface action.. Also, here's a Video of Your Humble Narrator landing one of the Bass.... We were both like Kids in a candy store casting to the Bass, hooking them and fighting them, we just had a Wonderful day fishing!!!! I thought Folks might like seeing some Southern California Suburban Flyfishing Fun..

Looks like a blast man. Did you weigh any of them ? If so, what was your biggest ? Looks like some whoppers in there. Thanks for taking us along.

Nice thing is, that even with houses surrounding 98% of the Lake, most folks living there do not fish.. so the fishery is Really healthy and with a Catch & release, Barbless Flies & lures only Policy, it will remain a Quality fishery...

Great day of bassing there dude, those fish look really healthy. I've had many a good day fishing suburban bodies of water. From small backyard ponds and golf course ponds to smaller lakes. I like taking them on top in the morning and near dark with big poppers and Sneeky Petes. It's always exciting when you hear that ferocious hit and your line gets tight.

Good fish Dean. My bud Gary and I are going bass fishing on Lake Martin tomorrow. Hope to have a few pics of our catch to post at the end of the day. We're gonna use rubber bait primarily. 6" Watermelon Red ZOOM worms on a Texas rig were working good a couple of weeks ago. Hope they still are.

For Trask & Son.. & Erb.. and anyone else who is interested.. The Gear I use on Westlake is as follows...:
6wt. thru 8wt. Flyrods.. The 6wt. is using a floating Line, the 7 wt. & 8wt. rods are rigged with Sinking Lines. all the rods are 9 ft. models... Flies that Kick Bass butt on the lake are : Sanchez Sluggo leeches, Marabou Muddlers, Wooly Buggers, Calcasieu Pig Boats, Twisted Worms, Near Nuff Crawfish, Winapusakee Smelt, Hart's Glass minnow & Burke's Hot Claws... In the Summer I load the 8wt. with a "Bass taper" Floating Line and fish Poppers and Bass Bugs on the surface.. always a Kick when the Popper or Bug suddenly "falls into the bucket" as the bass inhales it!!!!! Bass on a Fly rod is very addictive for me.... ![]()
