Strutting hen turkey

When I hunted the 3rd season here in Illinois, I was wearing camera glasses to record the hunt.....around 7am a Hen came up to my decoys, not something strange since on many hunts I have had Hens check out my decoys but this time was different...the hen walked into the middle of them and then blew herself up just like a Tom would do. I was amazed since I had never seen a hen display like that before. This went on for at least 20 minutes before she finally wandered off.
I reduced this video to 1 minute in doing so I had to cut out a part where she actually attack one of the decoys. The eyeglass camera makes things look to far away, and its light in the first few seconds....gets better after that, its hard to see her good enough to tell that its a hen but it is.
So I wanted to know if anyone of you have ever seen a Hen do this before?
Thanks, Joyce

I hunt wild game legally with the proper permits plus I am actively involved in working to improve habit and food sources for wildlife, so I put back alot more than I take!
What do you do, besides trying to harass people like me that are against killing the wild horses just because some people don't think they have a right to be there???? They have been there for hundreds of years, long before cattle/ and sheep ranchers arrived in the west.... in numbers that were much greater than they are today, like the Buffalo before white man came and started killing them, something like 60 million roamed the western plains. its the greedy ranchers cattle/sheep that are messing with the eco-system not the wild horses!
I see you have " Tribal Council member " below your name, I was wondering if that gives you the right here on arrowheadology to try and run off other that you don't like because they posted there views on another post about wild horses being killed! Really When I came to arrowheadology I thought I had found a place that was a great site to share my artifacts and hunting stories with a bunch of very generous, good people but I am thinking now I should just leave this site and stay to myself! There is a non politically correct joke in there but I'm going to let it go.

Very interesting stuff. I've never seen or heard of that.

Joyce dont leave , I enjoy reading your post's. I have a video put out by Mossy oak. It was a bunch of different short clips sent in by viewers. One guy was turkey hunting , making calls and had a bird coming in gobbling every so often. You could tell it sounded kinda wierd. When it came in to view , it was a hen strutting and gobbling and just putting on a show. First time I ever saw anything like that. Tracy

Hi Tracy,
Thanks for the information on someone showing a clip of a Hen turkey gobbling and strutting! I can only imagine how surprised he was when he realized it was a hen. This hen never gobbled just strutted around my decoys for along time, and she attacked one of the decoys like she was trying to run it off her territory....I am happy to hear that you seen it happen too, so now others will know I was not just to dumb to know a hen from a tom. The video is not that good so its hard to see her real clear.

Thanks for saying you enjoy reading my post, that means alot to me! I am over the feeling I had when I felt that I should leave. I am a person that stays to myself most of the time, and was happy to find this place, so I could share my interest with others that like the same things I do.
Anyway thanks again for making me feel better and for letting me know there are others that have seen strutting hens! Joyce
